43.9% Of Small Business Owners Struggle To Find New Clients
According to a survey conducted by flyingsolo.com.au of more than 1,700 small business owners … 43.9% of them said their number one problem in their business is how to find new clients. When you think about it this makes sense.
When someone decides to go into small business it is not usually because they are excited about or skilled in marketing.
Most people who go into small business do so because they have a particular skill set, passion, or recognise a gap in the market. Their focus is on the THING they do. So the graphic designer is excellent at design and sets up in business providing graphic design services. The personal trainer starts a personal training business because they are passionate about keeping fit and working out etc.
What most fail to take into account is the importance of marketing the thing you do!
The mistaken belief that many small business owners operate under is that if they just get better at the thing they do then clients will some how just turn up. The reality is clients do not just knock on your door … you either go out and get them or you ATTRACT them.
Most Small Business Owners Don’t Like Chasing New Clients
When most of these small business owners think about getting new clients the only model they are aware of is what we call the PUSH MODEL of sales and marketing. What this means is that you need to push you and your business out into the market to try and get new clients. This means cold calling to get appointments, doing presentations to uninterested prospects, trying to close the sale, then spending three months following up.

Small business owners don't want to be perceived as the cheesy sales guy
Most small business owners hate this model and will not do it consistently enough to grow their business.
The Attraction Marketing model on the other hand appeals to small business owners. They recognise that if they can ATTRACT qualified clients who come to them then it puts them into a much stronger position in their business. The right marketing system that consistently attracts an endless stream of new clients gives the business its best chance of success.
Its the difference between MANUAL LABOUR MARKETING which requires the personal input and time of the business owner, and implementing a MARKETING SYSTEM that can run on autopilot once its set up … even when you are on holidays. The reality for most small business owners is if they take time out of their business their marketing stops. When their marketing stops so does their business.
The Attraction Marketing System is extremely popular with small business owners for this simple fact … it is a system that once implemented into your business can be run largely on AUTOPILOT bringing to you a never ending stream of new clients.
Without A Marketing System Most Small Business Will Fail
You are no doubt aware of the high rate of business failure amongst small business. The reason for this is clear … without an effective marketing system most small business are ultimately doomed to fail. Even if the small business owner is successful with a manual labour approach to marketing they eventually get to busy to keep it up. When the marketing stops the business stops.
So what does it take to change this?
Well firstly small business owners need to recognise the importance of stopping working IN the business momentarily to take time to work ON the business. This is explained in Michael Gerbers book ‘The e-Myth’ where he states that the problem for small business owners is they are too busy working in the business doing the thing to stop and work on strategies to grow the business.
As an Attraction Marketing Associate your marketing coaching service is invaluable to a small business owner. Helping them to implement the right Attraction Marketing System is extremely rewarding as you help them to move from struggle to success.
